Housed inside a stunning converted dock building, Tate Liverpool will take your breath away. If the building itself is awe-inspiring, its exhibits are every bit as inspiring. A collection of British art from the 1500s to the present day reads like a who’s who of iconic painters. Traditional and contemporary artworks occupy pride of place in the gallery’s Tate Collection, which is stocked with exquisite national treasures. Since opening in 1988, Tate Liverpool has welcomed visitors in their droves, lured by exhibitions of greats such as Francis Bacon. Exhibits encompass such themes as the constellations of the night sky as represented through art, the human body, still life and the natural world. A highlight of any trip to the Tate is checking out its final exhibit: the cafe. The food’s good and the coffee smells heavenly, but it’s the art that’ll turn your head. Designed by British pop artist Sir Peter Blake, it forms a wall of bold colours and geometric shapes. With free admission and an ever-changing roster of scintillating exhibits, a day at Tate Liverpool never ceases to delight.
